The highest risk of clots happened during the Alpha wave of COVID-19, when about 1 in 100 patients (1.2%) developed a clot.

People who caught COVID-19 after surgery were about 4 times more likely to get a blood clot than those who didn't.

SARS-CoV-2 infection is associated with an increased risk of venous thromboembolism.

Post-operative infection and recent infection increased risk.

Unvaccinated patients had the highest risk.

A single dose of vaccine had a 20% relative risk reduction.

Extreme swings in practice are often erroneous, & it is possible that an all-or-none decision-making process for cricoid force application is one of these errors. Some patients require prophylactic application of cricoid force; some warrant therapeutic application..

The risk of peri-operative peripheral nerve injuries in Victoria is lower than historical estimates and appears to be decreasing with time.

The use of administrative databases allows for inclusion of denominator data = more accurate estimate of risk in rare events.
