When did protesting without leverage become a liberal and left habitus despite all the evidence that it really is only for people who already agree with the protest at this point? I have seen 25 years of this, and I can't think of a single one that got its ask.

And I use narcissism of the secondary type, which is not a DSM diagnosis, but a framework from psychoanalysis because it is where you can't see that institutions and ideologies you invest in are not yourself and then you can't model minds that don't share /3

One interesting observation: the amount of people who call people liars for disagreeing with them (or who don't understand that the person they are talking to doesn't have priors they do at all even for their enemies) is astounding here. It's narcissistic in a secondary sense /1

But the Dems already more or less did that in 2019-2020. The leadership is doubling down on nothingism. Starmer relative unpopularity in the UK doesn't build hope for this working as a long-term strategy for them. So learn a lesson from Hua and avoid subsuming yourself/4

My point is that most of the leadership of social democratic and/or centerist liberal problems are should be remembered by the moniker Hua's faction got for this ineffectiveness... the Nothingists. James Carville wants the Dems do a UK Labour and get power back by doing nothing/3

A forgotten fact of the 1970s in China was that Deng's faction didn't immediately come to power after the disillusion of the gang of four. Hua Guofeng and "Center Faction" were the predominant leaders until 1981. It's amazing how this gets dropped but they were ineffective./1
