Honest disagreement is encouraged. But if you come here with "spaghetti monster" snark & "religion is for dupes" flippery, I will hit "block" like

It is a harrowing read. But the very least every member of Congress can do is make it through a few chapters of Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir NOBODY’S GIRL. My god.

Hey so “underage girls” are…children. The word you’re looking for is children. They’re not like, women-in-waiting or women-lite or whatever. They’re children. I think some of you are very uncomfortable with what that means for you but it is still true.

I don’t want to tell the bishops how to do their job, but maybe if they’d focused as much attention on immigration as they did on largely baseless “threats” to religious freedom over the past two decades, Trump’s fear-mongering wouldn’t have been so successful.

Ahem.
Catholic bishops nationwide recently announced “You Are Not Alone,” a program that lays out ways for Catholics across the country to provide direct aid and solidarity to immigrants in the U.S.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

The Mayor of New York only makes $260k. I bet there are police that make more than that in NY with overtime.

We need to pay elected leaders more money and stop pretending it's some sort of calling. They're managing hundreds of billions of dollars in investments and millions of people's lives.

Just passed a painter’s van flying a big ol’ Mexican flag in one of the neighborhoods ICE has been targeting here. That’s the energy in Chicago right now and I am here for it.

It’s fantastic that Virginia is getting its first female governor and Detroit its first female mayor, but holy cats I am ready for the day when that’s no longer a thing and people have gotten over themselves about women in leadership.

Voters may not be excited about the Democratic Party at the moment, but they have HAD IT with the party that could stop any of Trump’s cruelty & despotism at any point and chooses not to.

i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist
the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.

A pox on every lily-livered Democratic leader who sat out the NYC mayoral race. Step aside and let change come through.

Only surprise is that this hasn’t happened more.
“Three men in black vests entered a NY restaurant claiming to be ICE agents. Inside, they tied a worker’s hands and pulled a garbage bag over the person’s head. Another, believing the burglars’ story, surrendered themselves, only to be kicked to the ground and tied up as the intruders robbed an ATM”

Yes, it's heartening to see Chicagoans (when ICE is everywhere in Chicagoland, we are all Chicago now) come together to protect each other and our neighbors.

But a reminder that one big reason for our whistles is tech companies keep caving to Trump demands to take down ICE tracker websites. Still.

Appreciate this coverage but it is hard to explain to people not in the Chicago area that THESE ARE NOT PROTESTS.

This is people coming out of their homes, doing anything in their power to try to stop their neighbors from being kidnapped.

It is coming for your city next, please be prepared.

Certainly seems like the Trump Administration has shifted to terrorizing Chicago precisely because we don’t want them here.

It was never about the worst of the worst. And it’s definitely not about keeping us safe.

Many of our schools now have indoor recess bc of ICE activity & risk of tear gas.
