All humans want to control themselves. Strong people control themselves via self-mastery.

Weak people don't have self-mastery, so they attempt to control themselves by controlling others.

Autocrats aren't strong; they're dependent & weak. They need to subvert others' freedom to feel self-control.

The words we use matter. If as Carl Jung declared, “what you resist, persists”, we should give more powerfully focused energy to what we do want rather than what we don’t (i.e. eyes on the prize).
You Only Get More of What You Resist—Why?
Jung argued long ago that “what you resist not only persists, but will grow in size.” Today this paradoxical viewpoint is typically shortened to “what you resist persists."

I recently paused to read and consider each of “LBJ’s Goals” that are prominently displayed at the LBJ Library. We were in Austin two weeks ago for an event at the Briscoe Center for American History. It felt right and timely to revisit.
