It doesn't say in the full statement but one woman was cavity searched too. These are mostly middle aged women, mothers, innocent, peaceful protesters. It is appallingly. I can't imagine how degrading it is and I'm so angry.

On Sunday Mothers Against Genocide and other activists held a peaceful protest and candlelit vigil outside the gates of the Dáil to show support, love, and solidarity to the mothers in Palestine whose children have been murdered and to the Children whose Mother's have been murdered. This vigil would have ended 31st, 10 am with the handing in of a letter to the Government asking them to uphold International Law and stop their complicity in allowing Weapons used in the Genocide in Gaza to go through our airspace by enacting the arms embargo bill which is back in the Seanad this Wednesday and to STOP delaying the OTB. The right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression are fundamental principles enshrined in the Irish Constitution and International Human Rights Law. Ministers were made aware of the peaceful protest and vigil and were invited to meet with the mothers at 10am when the letter was to be handed over. Despite reminders, no ministers responded. This morning, several Gardaí arrested many members of M.A.G. and others. This was a heavy-handed state response to mothers protesting the slaughter of mothers and children. There was no escalation from M.A.G. The horrific situation was created by the Gardaí when they destroyed the vigil kicking and trampling on the pictures of the children killed in Gaza and the baby grow washing lines. The mothers then took the position in front of the gates to display the remaining images of the children, to ensure they were seen. The gates were locked and were not being used to access the Dáil. At no time was public access blocked. These mothers spent mothers day away from their children to implore that the government stop being complicit in genocide. And rather than being engaged with as citizens standing up for international law they were arrested some were strip searched and treated in a degrading manner, tools of Intimidation that will not stop us from standing up for the slaughtered mothers and children of Gaza
