Sometimes you want to open a new, unknown bottle and explore it fully. And sometimes you want to sit back with a familiar favorite. 😊 The Goisot Aligoté is one of my consistent favorites. I highly recommend it. It’s a great “relax on the sofa” wine. 😊 #winesky #aligote #bourgogne

Château Yvonne 2022 Saumur Blanc - light bodied to the eyes but FAR more complex on the nose and palate. Lemon, apple, pear, and a touch of honey, dry and acidic. Makes me want to clap my hands like Maggie Smith in “Gosford Park” and say “Yummy yummy yummy!” #winesky #loirecheninblanc #kogodwineclub

Opened a bottle for a lovely spontaneous visit with a neighbor. Vincent Pinard Florés Sancerre 2022. Much lighter in intensity and body than expected. Consistent on the nose and palate - apple, pear, lemon, and wet stones, plus lemongrass on the palate. Kogod Wine Club selection. #winesky #whitewine

Opened a REALLY interesting bottle tonight. Cesarese del Piglio, which was a new wine for me. Aged in amphora. Roscioli Wine Club bought the whole amphora to create a private 1500 bottle collection. Unfiltered, so it has sediment. But it is otherwise a fresh, crisp wine. Easy and drinkable! #winesky

When I get this balanced a little better, I’ll release the other hounds. Especially since I still drink white and rosé more than red. 😊

I wanted a hearty pasta marinara with vegetarian meatballs for dinner, but didn’t feel like opening a bottle of red. This chewy, hefty rosé was a great alternative. Torre Dei Beati Cerasuolo D’Abruzzo 2022. Juicy and sweet on the nose, notes of strawberry, cherry, cranberry, and a touch of honey.

Okay. I know there are far more important things to be outraged by. But…seriously, how trashy can this guy be??? 🤬

If you are looking for good wines, I recommend the wines (and olive oil) of Cesani. Their Serisé is a Ciliegiolo that is so yummy! And of their Vernaccias, the Clamys is my favorite because the grapes are grown in a section of land rich with fossils. LOTS of minerality! #winesky

My newest essay is up on Substack. Some potentially navel-gazing thoughts about why I'm writing essays. 😊

The ER episode “Love’s Labor Lost” remains one of the most affecting hours of television ever produced. Convincing the world of the genius of Bradley Whitford is just the start of the list of reasons why it will always rank in the top episodes of dramatic television of all time.

The other day I watched this week’s episode of “The Pitt” then immediately watched an episode of “ER”. In spite of their common staffing, they are very different shows in tone and storytelling styles. And you would never confuse Dr. John Carter for Dr. Michael Robinavitch. Also? ER REALLY holds up!

January’s wine club included a different selection. Valdespino Single Vineyard Inocente Fino Dry Sherry. I’m not sure about this yet. Nutty, yeasty notes make it hard to find the fruit/acid I love about wine the most. But I’m having it with cheese and nuts, as instructed. Still thinking. 😊 #winesky

I am currently rethinking my status as a "frequent flier". And, yes, this is real. I just took this screenshot on X myself. The dig at Hillary Clinton is a fun bonus. Yes, how insane to want people with experience to take on this task. 🙄

My newest essay (a more rushed draft than usual to address what I'm experiencing in the moment) is up on Substack. Some thoughts about self-care when the world is on fire.

César Fernandez Díaz Espantaburros Clarete 2020. Easy drinking Spanish rosé with strawberry and cherry, plus mild grass/herb notes. Mildly regret not opening it during hot summer weather. But happy to be drinking it now. Good comfort wine for tough times. #wine #winesky #therevolutionwillbeoeniphied

Law & Order premiered a year and a half after I graduated from high school. After 20 seasons it went off the air. 12 years later it came back. On a Friday afternoon with a day off, I’m sitting here watching the newest episode of season 24. In these crazy times, I really appreciate reliable comforts.

My newest essay is up on Substack. A reflection on how a childhood memory can change with adult perspective - and become even sweeter.

It has only been 4 days since the inauguration. It feels like years. Right now, this view is the only thing keeping me sane.

Same search an hour later. So bizarre. Also found other reports of people seeing this. I wonder if anyone will figure out how it happened?

Umm…seriously, WT Actual F?!?!? And, no, Biden doesn’t appear out of order lower down. He is simply not there. How??? And, yes, I just took this screenshot myself after seeing a similar one somewhere else.

This was a day that had to end with a good bottle of wine. 🫣🤨✊ Quinta Do Javali Clos Bonifata, from the Duoro River Valley of Portugal. A light intensity white with lovely apple and honey notes. Easy drinking, but not boring. A 3.5⭐ from me. 😁 Curated by @stubbie999.bsky.social for Kogod Wine Club.
