Here comes the snow. And the stacked wood. And the outside heater to make my porch seat cozy all season.

My youngest is headed to college this fall, a shift in the “role of mom” is in the works.

If you’ve wondered what that role looks like, may I present Exhibit A: his first series of texts to me.

I couldn’t script a more accurate summary of the last 24 yrs of parenting (he & his sibs) if I tried.

I'm logistics planning for a trip from Michigan to Minnesota and Google is constantly like, PUT YOUR CAR ON A BOAT! And I'm like, no I just want to drive AROUND the lake. Google, YOU put your car on a boat!!

No explanation. I've submitted a request 4 different times and have gotten 4 different, likely purposefully, obtuse answers. Here's the literal screenshot of the message, "This trip is eligible for a refund" is pretty clear language. And the word "refund" is pretty clear in definition.

Slag. The kids used to search for it to sell to various interested parties (like jewelers) for pocket money.

This is what straight up maple sap looks like. It's *almost* all water, but has 2% sugar and a smattering of other minerals. We're running out of firewood so I decided to bring in a couple of gallons to start boiling inside.

Here's a video from my bird cam yesterday. Not a bird.

Also you can see it's still winter here. Sigh.

Todays maple syrup batch. As the season goes on, the syrup gets darker and more maple-flavored. We stop collecting just about when the leaf buds come out. It was 20 F here today, so that's still off awhile this year.

First day of spring even though it doesn't look like it. The evaporator is doing it's evaporation job. 🍁🔥🥞

Exactly 1 gallon to start. I name every batch, this one is called, "Tornado Alley" because the winds were wild yesterday. When naming maple syrup batches, anything goes. We accidentally scorched a batch once, so we named it ,"Caramelized Inferno."

First batch of maple syrup ready to finish inside. The sap was boiled down from about 2% sugar (how it comes out of the tree, looks like water) to 30% sugar. Now we boil it more inside until its ~67% sugar, then we can it. I thinnnnnkkkk we'll have about a gallon of syrup from this first batch.

Actual text I sent to my high school senior the day before. We did get it done that day. But, sigh.

Missed the equals sign by 2 cm while typing just now and accidentally typed a minus sign. BigQuery decided to write me a novel about it. So much drama, BQ. Big Big Drama.

Throwback to a couple of summers ago - Bïrb, the orphaned blue jay that we raised and released. With an acorn hat.

And here's the real one (with espresso I have not even finished yet). Along the lines, but I riffed a bit. 'll try another version. Maybe a different bird. Can't have too many espresso cups?

AI use case: My daughter and I wanted to go paint pottery, I wanted to paint a gold finch on an espresso cup. I used DALL-E to come up with stylistic ideas, then used this thought-partnership to make a real thing based on the AI version. Here's the AI one I modeled mine after.

For reals, dude? Does False mean False or Null? There is a difference. Either you know that and are being deceptive or you're not so smart about data.

And this doesn't mean payments are going out.

I can say with certainty most data sets have DOB and other errors, and often iffy null handling.
