My favorite part of the Virgin Punk BTS stuff was the room they shot one of the segments in has all kind of cool records on display, with maybe the most prominent one being...Bruce Springsteen's dicorce-core classic Tunnel of Love

Sure, why not, what's the worst that happens

#190. Wallace and Gromit: A Close Shave (1995)
There's a bit towards the beginning of this short where you can see three difference actions happening in three different plans of the shot and thinking about the logistics of planning that shot, much less shooting it, makes my brain hurt.

#189. The WereCleaner
Delightful little stealth/comedy game about a werewolf having to do his office cleaning job during a full moon (he needs to make his rent) while trying to not be spotted so he isn't compelled to eat people. It's short, but nicely repayable and it's FREE! A quality time

#188. Isekai Metaller (Vol. 1) by Kasuga Ryo
They finally did it, they made an isekai series I actually want to read. And all they had to do was make it about a well meaning metal head who wants to bring about world piece through metal and can also shoot lighting out of his guitar

#187. Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers (1993)
I have a whole review on Letterboxd about how great the animation and style and the train chase is, but I think I want to single out the best gag in the short:
HAVE YOU SEEN THIS CHICKEN?

#186. Wallace and Gromit: A Grand Day Out (1989)
This looks almost primitive in comparison to the later shorts and movies Aardman/Nick Park would go on to do, but this is still such an achievement. Perfectly executed, full of great gags, and a perfect introduction to two of the great characters

#185. The Substance (2024)
You know, I sort of assumed this was going to be a David Cronenberg-style body horror social commentary movie and as pleasantly surprised to learn that it's more of a Brian Yuzna/Troma style body horror social commentary movie.

#184. Project Monster (2023-Present)
Godzilla-based analog horror/found footage/fake documentary series about how weird and awful it would be to live in a kaiju world, told though news broadcasts, TV documentaries, retrospective news magazine segments, and commercials. It RULES

#183. Batman: Damned by Brian Azzarello, Lee Bermejo, & Jared K. Fletcher.
I'm kinda sad this got reduced to being "the one where you can see Batman's dick", this is a pretty good supernatural thriller that really give Bermejo a lot of room to draw cool atmospheric action and set pieces

#182. Pictures (1977) by Jack DeJohnette (RIP)
I liked this album (drum and organ duo w/some guitar), but I'm not sure I can't describe why. This is the kind of jazz I'm often stumped to put into words, it just worked for me. I went on a journey and it was a good journey and I'm glad I went on it

#181. Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc (2025)
This shit rips! Exactly as frenetic and action packed as it should be and also nailing all the quite introspective moments that give all of that action context and meaning.

#180. Frankenstein (2025)
This is definitely the del Toto version of Frankenstein in the best way! I really appreciate how much this indulges in the gothic horror side of Frankenstein, which I feel like gets downplayed some times in favor of the early sci-fi aspect.

Yeah this is pretty fun

#179. Batman and the Mad Monk by Matt Wagner, Dave Stewart, & Rob Leigh.
This is maybe, like, a quarter star less god than the last Wagner Batman mini, but that's mostly because I'd rather him draw big ugly monsters instead of cultists & vampires. Still worth reading just for how the Monk goes out

#178. Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng by Kylie Lee Baker
Absolutely top tier book that starts as social horror before morphing into something more supernatural. Maybe the only piece of fiction about the pandemic I have enjoyed reading

#177. Gemini Home Entertainment (2019-2023)
Really excellent analog horror series, presented as a series of decaying home video tapes that show the details of an alien invasion of earth. The best part is how well it captures the sound and feel of low-end edutainmenty VHS tapes from that era

#176. Batman and the Monster Men by Matt Wagner, Dave Stewart, & Rob Leigh.
I am eternally sad that the "Matt Wagner redoes old Golden Age Batman stories as miniseries" thing only lasted two series, they're really good and really scratch a modern and pulpy itch I never know I have.

#175. Under the Skin (2013)
Man, I really love living in the world where the Virtual Insanity guy spends 10 years crafting a mind altering movie and it's one of best thing you'll watch all year. Glad I finally got a chance to actual sit down and watch this one.

#174. Possession (1981)
Boy that is a MOVIE alright! Just a very intense and uncomfortable movie about two people who should probably not be in a relationship, and that's before the real horror stuff kicks in.
November 8, 2025 at 8:57 PM
Frankly worth reading just to see the Bernie Wrightson Batmobile in action. The actual plot of about Batman being mentally broken by a cult and having to put himself back together again to fight them is pretty rad too

#173. Batman: Haunted Gotham by Batman: The Cult by Jim Starlin, Bernie Wrightson, Bill Wray, & John Costanza
This rules so hard, they should have gotten Wrightson to draw more Batman comics, especially if Starlin is gonna give him such cool Wrightson-y stuff to draw. Writing's good too!
November 8, 2025 at 8:53 PM
#172. Batman: Haunted Gotham by Doug Moench, Kelley Jones, John Beatty, Jason Moore, Daniel Vozzo, & Willie Schubert.
Pretty good spooky Elseworlds story (it's got a talking skeleton and everything!) marred only by being a little bit of a step down from the Vampire trilogy. Still a fun read though

He has, shockingly, including a few things I completely forgot he was involved with
Thursday Murder Club is the only one I've seen and while I did like it, I that is not a movie I'd use to pick the next Gremlins director
