A or B… the other two are a little bit too much (for my ADS brain). Can you implement both to mark 'more important' places?

I would go for the tier system. You find some places in the near and can find common kerfuffle… after time, you have better equipment and you can return to old ones… and you get better places in the distance… both reveal more 'legendary' stuff. Maybe you need to find the places at first?
