“The People’s Pope” symbolized the very best of what faith is meant to do in the world - encourage us all to care & advocate for those most vulnerable & marginalized in our communities.

Various continental, national and community organizations across Europe are tackling anti-Muslim hatred & it was valuable to hear about challenges and best practices from those dedicated to working for peaceful and cohesive societies. 🕊️

I presented on our work in 🇨🇦 during the Second Coordination Meeting on Combating Anti-Muslim hatred and racism co-organized by the European Commission and the Council of Europe, and attended by representatives from over 30 countries & organizations.

The HR30 Inaugural Conference: Empower Talk: Standing Against Hate & Embracing Rights was organized by Professor Ahmed Shaheed and the University of Essex and the Government of Albania.

I was pleased to share the experiences of Canadian Muslims, and the work we are undertaking to challenge these dangerous trends in our country at a groundbreaking meeting, speaking before the PM Albania, alongside UN and government officials, academics, and civil society from around the world.

Hate speech has a direct impact on our ability to exercise our rights and freedoms, particularly when it comes to freedom of religion or belief.

Canada, along with other countries, is grappling with this threat to our pluralistic democracy. Our collective safety, inclusion, & futures are at stake.

Today is the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People❤️

We gathered this week for a moving vigil to mourn the tens of thousands of innocent lives stolen & harmed in Gaza & Lebanon, to call for peace & justice, alongside Ministers, MPs, staffers & community.

No one - including children & young people - should face hate of any kind, especially at school.

Divisive, hateful narratives fuel anti-Palestinian/anti-Arab racism & Islamophobia and are all too constant in public discourse, directly impacting Canadian youth.

It must stop🛑.
