Sincere condolences 💐 to Canadian Catholics and everyone mourning the loss of #PopeFrancis.

“The People’s Pope” symbolized the very best of what faith is meant to do in the world - encourage us all to care & advocate for those most vulnerable & marginalized in our communities.

Six years ago today, 51 worshippers were deliberately killed in an Islamophobic terrorist attack in Christchurch, NZ.

Today, Canada joins the world in mourning the victims while recommitting to standing up to Islamophobia, and all forms of hate. ➡️ www.newswire.ca/news-release...

“. . . what is so key is that when we fight any form of hate and racism, we’re really fighting for a future that everyone will be able to contribute to positively.”

Hate speech has a direct impact on our ability to exercise our rights and freedoms, particularly when it comes to freedom of religion or belief.

Canada, along with other countries, is grappling with this threat to our pluralistic democracy. Our collective safety, inclusion, & futures are at stake.

Lovely to reconnect with my friend & sister Ottawa Rabbi Elizabeth Bolton, a member of Rabbis for Ceasefire ❤️

We reflected on the importance of standing together against antisemitism, anti-Palestinian/anti-Arab racism, and Islamophobia & standing up for peace & justice for all.

Advancing social cohesion, equity, & inclusion for all Canadians remains crucial.

I met with Minister Kamal Khera to provide updates & share the challenges 🇨🇦 continues to face with rising Islamophobic, anti-Palestinian/anti-Arab sentiments & acts threatening our democracy.

No one - including children & young people - should face hate of any kind, especially at school.

Divisive, hateful narratives fuel anti-Palestinian/anti-Arab racism & Islamophobia and are all too constant in public discourse, directly impacting Canadian youth.

It must stop🛑.
