I wouldn't call 600 AD as a Dragon Quest homage as it's the same artist doing concept art for both. Robo's concept art even looks medieval-ish when you see that he's got leather straps that resemble livery.

It's certainly ignorance for people to not realize that artists will continue to evolve and change their style over time. I think a great example and counterpart to Ditko would be Matisse as both men became looser in their twilight years & focused on elements they felt most important for their work
