UPDATE: Another Chicago-area church has put up an immigration-themed Nativity scene.

A church member at Urban Village Church sent this one along, where Mary, Joseph and Jesus are gone and replaced with a sign that reads: “Due to ICE activity in our community, the Holy Family is in hiding.”

gotta say the fact that a waymo will pick up and drive away while someone is actively trying to get a cat out from under the car seems like a major safety hazard
"Footage obtained by The New York Times of the moment a Waymo car ran over Kit Kat, a beloved San Francisco bodega cat, raises new questions about the company’s safeguards."

Waymo's robots lack situational awareness to an alarming and prob unacceptable extent.

There are plenty of gay and bi players in professional men's sports, but they are closeted by institutional homophobia and it really sucks.

Women's sports show how well it could work and how fun and sweet it is, both when they play on the same teams and when they are rivals.

The homophobic environments are certainly part of it but he talks about how clear it was that he would get blackballed from the NFL as soon as anyone found out (Michael Sam, etc). This is an institutional problem that leagues could solve TOMORROW if they wanted to.

I have thoughts on why this doesn't happen in men's sports beyond the obvious (homophobic environments starting from birth), if anyone is interested I would read RK Russell's memoir about being gay in the NFL.

I am seeing some comments like “what if pro athletes really did kiss???” and I am excited for those people to learn about the WNBA

Malone is now talking about the role of undocumented migrants in spreading measles.

There is no evidence of this. I am disgusted. The measles outbreak is American-grown due to declining vaccination coverage in response to disinformation.

I mean, yeah. That's the entire point? Heated Rivalry, the book, is about loneliness and isolation and shoving yourself so deeply in the closet that you can't see anything outside of it, except you can't deny yourself one fundamental sweetness. The one that allows you to express your true self.

Sex is part of human behavior, and our attitudes towards sex, as well as the kinds of sex we desire and why we find it desirable, all inform who we are. Why would you dismiss that aspect of character-building if you're a writer or creator, especially of love stories? Why wouldn't you want to use it?

Why is sex-as-punishment or sex-as-suffering elevated as art, but as soon as you see characters having sex for the pure pleasure of it, it's immediately dismissed? Why do we have so many graphic depictions of sexual assault and sexual trauma and so very few of sexual fulfillment? Rly makes u think

Of course they visualize the schedule like this because it elicits a strong emotional reaction—especially among new parents. Let’s add some critical context to this image…

Someday this cruelty will be reversed for Rachel Levine. It will be covered as a touching moment, a "correction" of an injustice. People will expect her to be grateful. Fuck that. The expectation of easy forgiveness & the shaming of rage at injustice is what brings us back to this awful place
