Let's not get into the more colloquial voice (or, specifically, bringing in the voices of my characters into the narration as well as dialogue) I use, which sure does rub people up the wrong way if it doesn't mesh with them. But there's far more that enjoy it - and writing/reading is so personal.

Apparently this is my hill to die on today as I have some personal things going on.

But it's my style, my style will change throughout my writing life, no one else gets a say in it: that's all there is to it.

If my style isn't for you, that's no problem at all - not every writer's style is for everyone and that's very normal. But I'm struggling to see how creating variation in sentence (and paragraph) length even if just for the reader's ease (and lack of reading fatigue) is ever going to be bad thing.

Caveat: this is fiction writing. Your style will be different for a bullet point list or a speech - which is where knowing how to create rhythm and flow in your writing comes into play.

I don't know why this sentence style, which sounds clipped to me, is more prominent. But it's not mine, sorry.

Sentences and paragraphs should have a rhythm to them and, importantly, they should vary in length (style dependent on what you're writing and the point you're making etc) to maintain the flow of your writing voice.

Keep everything the same (i.e. short and snappy) and your voice is flat flat flat.

I don't think I've ever gone so far as to throw things away, but I just want to shove them deep down, to hide them in a bag, to shove them under the bed or somewhere where I don't have to look at them, where I can't see them.

I'm so glad I was able to help a little through my writing (although I am mentally cringing at some of the stories from the 2015-ish era - but we all learn and grow!)

I wish you all the very, very best in your writing as you go forward ❤️

Oh wow thank you! That's so kind and I'd love to embody her.

(and I need to watch LotR yet again now, never ever gets old)

I've not heard of it (I'm sorry!) but I looked it up and the design is very cool, I might have to dig into that one. Always nice to have something fun to watch.

I am guessing they're a villain/bad one though, fair.
