Neurospicy parent of Neurospicy kids with a Neurospicy partner and dog. Crafty. IT nerd. (End user systems & SRE) I like swearing, knitting, swearing at my knitting, and cheese. Minnesotan. Opinions mine and mine alone.
I know lots and lots of things are trash, but today I’d like to celebrate my pollinator friendly garden. In the 21 years we’ve lived here, this is the most nature filled summer. Yes, I’m mad at the bunnies for eating my natives, but I have so many pollinators. Including sleepy bees on zinnias.

One cool thing I saw in Madison was the future home of a @raygunsite.com store. I was sad it wasn’t open yet.

You know what makes getting paged for something stupid better? Husbands who wake up and get you McDonalds burritos. These are the best burritos. Thank you @ajduden.bsky.social

There is a market for puppy pictures?

Yes you are!

Are you a good boy?

Brigsby?

For @nedpyle.com and @mightyapollo.bsky.social, how I distracted myself tonight. Trying to capture the bees on my anise hyssop.

Before I switch to the knitting list instead of news heavy stuff, I give you something ridiculous. Small child and I bought a fake Labubu on purpose. To play with customizing. It was bad, so bad it may not work for what we want to do. So we started with a glow up. Because it was ALL forehead.

The world is trash (well, this country at least), so I’m working on a knitted sweater pattern for Labubu’s. Still not quite right. Next one should be it.

The fact that bugs generally make life hell for my partner and one spawn means Al fresco eating will never be a family thing, but damn I do love sitting out here to eat. The company is top notch.

I’ve been back in office regularly for like a week, so my morning coffee break/lap time hasn’t been happening. And I get up and leave before he gets up. So he’s very grateful for Canada Day, and how I have a day off.

Also today at Pride, seeing Frey’s booth get passed over over and over again made me happy. They had swag, but people went to everyone around them but them.

According to my partner I have mastered the crust for grilled pizza night. Dough is from Trader Joe’s. But the key seems to be stretch with oil, sprinkle garlic salt on not sides, and move to the side with burner off or on low to finish cooking.

Fight back by choosing kindness first. A print from Amy Rice sits above my home office with a Paul Wellstone quote. “We all do better when we all do better.” It’s my personal motto. It goes into my work, my personal life, etc.

Look, everyone is, rightfully, worrying about shit SCOTUS stuff. However, I found my first full sized monarch caterpillar in my garden. I only got them this big by finding eggs before, and hand raising. Gardening for pollinators works. I also have lady beetles eating aphids this year.

They are the ones who hate themselves. And their racism is showing. Here is my ridiculous dog “hiding” in my overgrown pollinator yard. Also, did you know bees sleep in flowers? They just sploot in them and snooze. Sometimes on the undersides of them too.

Well, we now know exactly what kind of dad the 🌮 leader is. As the child of a narcissist, feels oddly familiar. Good thing I have therapy tomorrow.

My dill thief is getting huge. (Swallowtail caterpillar)

I need a good, extra funny, low stress, show to watch. I need a summer escape while crocheting a blanket for the college bound kid.

Change of subject, but some of my natives stuffs are blooming or ready to bloom. Tumbleweed has a wee bud and my yarrow has a wee bee on it. When I go in my back yard you can smell the clover. It is divine.
June 19, 2025 at 4:46 PM
I can now confirm all of the non grass/clover stuffs have popped up in my bee lawn (took two seasons). Yarrow, self heal, creeping thyme. I’ve mostly overseeded where I lost yard to grubs, or not giving a fuck about grass. I used a bee lawn mix, a flowers only seed mix, and extra clover seed.

I had to work today, but I worked on my native pollinator garden as my act of fighting back. It’s silly, and small, but I got a Lawns to Legumes grant, so I got to speed up my plans. Almost done.
June 15, 2025 at 3:48 AM
I really should go do the work I need to do for that job thing, but it’s fucking beautiful out here. No mosquitos yet, perfect temp & humidity, tons of birds, some giant bumblebees out enjoying my early blooming stuff… my view, and a prairie violet (Viola pedatifida) that is blooming.

If a person named Kale eats a kale salad, is it cannibalism?
