AKA BR McCoy. Padparadscha from the LJ days. Writes SF/F; yells about space and linguistics. Cusses. Neuroqueer, so pick a pronoun!
Getting 90% of the way through your craft project, realizing you made a mistake at the start, and having to undo the whole thing to redo it is an underexplored theme of #Frankenstein, I feel

WHERE WAS I? Oh, right, so #Frankenstein pulls the plug on his Bride project and busts out the seam ripper, tearing her to pieces, which is a scene that seems to have horrified Dad. It's not graphic, but Frankenstein's not getting his deposit back on the abandoned Orkney Island castle

I realize that Lily Munster is technically a vampire, but you can't tell me her design wasn't inspired by Bride of #Frankensten

Meanwhile the scifi dweeb in me is totally fascinated by the implications of a coupla #Frankensteins having a kid. Victor seems to think the kid would be an abomination; I'm curious about whether it would just wind up a regular human and OKAY YOU KNOW WHAT,

Not saying that #Frankenstein WOULDN'T, just that it doesn't seem to occur to him not to.

Or maybe it did and he made his Monster completely Smooth down there and he's just seen Jurassic Park and is afraid that Life Will, Uh, Find A Way

But now he's on his second Monster, and he's presumably in charge of building her. MY gender apathetic, non-maternally-motiviated thought is just, "Bro, simply do not put in the sex organs," but then I listen to myself out loud and think, oh, right, that's kinda Nazish

#Frankenstein

I can totally see an early 19C European gentleman like #Frankenstein believing that sex organs are necessary for completeness, OR, if he's hacking together spare parts, just going along with these bits because otherwise you've got a big blank space there, and that's no good
November 11, 2025 at 11:13 PM
Like, WHY would #Frankenstein DO that.

Building sex organs into your FIRST monster is either catastrophic hubris or a ludicrous oversight:

Then another thought sends him spiraling: WHAT IF THEY GET ALONG, AND WHAT IF MONSTER BABIES. A {race of devils would be propagated upon the earth which might make the very existence of the species of man a condition precarious and full of terror}, which strikes me as HILARIOUS catastrophizing
November 11, 2025 at 11:02 PM
Anyway, #Frankenstein uses that rationale for his discomfort, like WHAT IF SHE DON'T LIKE HIM, but mostly it's again for the sake of humanity, who might bear the brunt of the dual displeasures of Monster & Bride. But hey, at least he thinks of it! He's basically catastrophizing Bride of Frankensten
November 11, 2025 at 11:00 PM
(ADDENDUM: It does seem plausible that The Monster fully intends for his Bride to be HAPPY, because he plans to be a companion to her from the beginning UNLIKE SOMEBODY WAS TO HIM, #FRANKENSTEIN, but this still seems kinda shortsighted) bsky.app/profile/amel...
This has always bugged me: The Monster spends quite a lot of time bemoaning how bleakly miserable and lonely his existence is, then turs around and is like ANYWAY MAKE ANOTHER ONE, which seems to be doing the exact thing Victor #Frankenstein did: create a life with no regard for its wishes
November 11, 2025 at 10:57 PM
But pretty much 90% into the creation of a Bride, #Frankenstein starts to have second thoughts. Which is a step up from last time, when he got 100% through and THEN had second thoughts

(Frankenhooker is GREAT, by the way. It's on Tubi, if you don't mind the sight of boobs and butts) tubitv.com/movies/65056...

OH MY GOD, has #Frankenstein been Jack The Rippering his way through England this whole time? Maybe he made superopium and he's been blowing up sex workers and collecting the pieces? Or am I just thinking of Frankenhooker?
November 11, 2025 at 10:30 PM
Again, no description of the Build-A-Bride process. We don't read about #Frankenstein robbing Scottish graves to construct a working lady or, actually, acquiring anything except a few groceries. IDK, maybe he smuggled a bunch of pieces in his luggage
November 11, 2025 at 10:29 PM
(It's actually an abandond fishing hut he rents, but a castle sounds so much more #Frankenstein, don't it?)
November 11, 2025 at 10:26 PM
They get to Edinburgh and Henry's gregarious nature gets him immediately adopted by Scots and swept off to go partying
#FRANKENSTEN: Go on and party. I'm going to rent an abandoned castle on the Orkney Islands. Come find me there, but DEFINITELY KNOCK before you come in, okay?
HENRY: Tally ho!
November 11, 2025 at 10:25 PM
So! A #Frankenstein road trip to England, with his buttercups-and-daisies pal, Henry Clerval! As far as I can tell, Henry spends the trip bouncing around all Sunshine, and Victor broods like the Stormcloud he is, all paranoid that The Monster is keeping pace with them
