Distrust spreads through families & communities, making collective action harder.

Info alone isn’t enough. Trust grows when leaders listen, are transparent, involve people and live by the standards they set.

Building trust and addressing scepticism is crucial for effective public health policy.

We hope this work contributes to future approaches that are inclusive, evidence-based, and person-centred.

Policy needs to meet people where they are: Building trust, using empathy-based communication, and involving communities early can help bridge divides.

Evidence is growing, but more is needed: Especially in areas like disease screening and preventive care, where current research is limited.

Hostility toward out-groups (e.g. sexism, xenophobia) was linked to lower support for healthcare services like family planning.
