just a regular bird person. (none/they/them)

living and creating on unceded Wangal land.

any genders expressed are parody and are not my own.
Loud music and masking makes it hard to communicate on the dance floor. I've been using a text app (BigNote) to "talk" to people. It's much easier, clearer, and saves your voice.

Here are some examples of saved messages, using my chosen colour scheme.

Me: "My tits are so tiny, no one at work probably knows I'm on HRT, right?

Also me: *looks down*

I'm happy with the relatively minimal work I did on these outfits. It was mostly curating from things I already had. (This is me learning to be more chill.)

I spontaneously made earrings and wanted to weave flowers into my bra, and that's it! The earrings were great; the bra flowers were just okay.

Finally, there was Bad Dog on Sunday. It was loosely "boat" themed and I dressed as a "boat lesbian".

I had fun and I danced a lot, but I felt spaces were too dark so you couldn't appreciate everyone's outfits properly, or find your friends unless they were dressed as a glowy jellyfish.

On Saturday night Unicorns returned! The theme was "Flower Power".

Probably my favourite event for community. There was plenty of outdoor space to mingle, and 3 dance spaces.

I got a lot of compliments on my outfit.

CW: My nipples are visible in the pic, for anyone who doesn't want to see that.

I then got up early to do some very low-effort activism, helping with the @transjusticeau.bsky.social's Flood The Post stall at @sockdrawerheroes.bsky.social's laneway markets. (SDH saved us from doing so much organisation work!)

It was such a nice day and everyone was very keen to get involved.

First up was Medusa. I wore a lot of my chain things (including my pauldron which is two years old now?) on top of a slip(?) dress(?) that had a sparkly net thing over the top of it.

Performances were great, people were nice, I had so much fun. I needed a few breaks and I was done by 1.30am.

I can't get over how Webb casually centres the importance of the police in every discussion of the pain they caused, and continue to cause, queer communities.

Anyway, here are some photos of me from 20 years ago this week.

Having A Time™ today. (Past month of self-reported symptom data for reference.)

I've started paying attention to how much sick leave I have left and I'm hesitant to use it on days like today where I don't ~need~ it, because I expect there to be worse times ahead. (I know this is a problem.)

I played with the puzzle game that came attached, but it was too easy.

(I wanted the combination in case it's locked next time and I don't want to ask someone for help. #ChaoticGood)

Tried out the fancy wheelchair trolley at [supermarket]. It's a practical design, but uncomfortably long at the front so it feels a bit awkward going around corners you can't see.

Kinda like reversing out of a car park *shudder*

First time leaving the apartment in 4 days appears to have upped my bird encounter rarity modifier!

(It makes sense from a game design perspective; you want to entice people to keep playing.)

((Yes, this has been reported to the brush turkey sighting citizen scientists.))

I went to bed, rested, and had a nap.

I still feel terrible, just not quite as bad.

I managed to move to the couch and heard what I think may be a young currawong learning to make calls. (I love the little chirp noises they make 😍)

So all in all, I guess it was a great day 💜

Cassie helped me upstairs and got me hydralyte and sodium tablets. She has to help me drink because I couldn't move my arms.

(Side note: I don't tent to see photos of my stomach fat. I like it.)

Extreme flooding caused the road to crumble halfway home and we hit it and got a flat tyre.

I went out to check, energised by excitement and purpose. Turns out a chunk of the road got caught on the wheel and eventually just fell off.

Lots of extreme weather lately, for some reason.

I got to work only 30 minutes late, but then spent more time laying on the bed in sick bay than I did at my computer.

My body hasn't been cooperating today and it has been SO HARD to motivate myself to get up sometimes. My bladder often serves as good incentive.

Today started with a fasting blood test, which in hindsight was a terrible idea because I woke up feeling exhausted.

I unsuccessfully tried making friends with a pigeon while I slowly drank my breakfast smoothie (which was awful for some reason).

I've been having a lot of feelings about effective activism this week.

If your participation is limited to actions reminiscent of that CIA guide, maybe just sit back and let others get on with doing their work.

The QLD government has refused to lift its restrictions on stage 1 and stage 2 treatments for trans youth, "contrary to the current best evidence-based guidelines, and represents political interference in healthcare".

As a result, 491 children are suddenly without access to care.

This weekend! There are a number of events around the country.

I'll be helping out at the Sydney rally, which starts 10am at Pride Square Newtown 🦾

Trying to describe symptoms with the triple-threat of a) undiagnosed chronic illnesses, b) alexithymia, and c) poor interoception is always fun*, but today I tried describing what might be a side effect of a medication with:

"It's like my frame rate has dropped slightly."
