So, for Autumn Equinox, we did a ritual involving tulip bulbs.
I ordered the tulips online, but got Back Up Bulbs from a grocery store just in case.

The back-up bulbs were red pearl onions.

Today I planted them under our black walnut, in the hopes of getting something like Alliums next year.
A red onion in flower: A bunch of white florets on a single stalk. The florets have red veins on their petals. The cluster of florets makes kind of a half-sphere, rather than the more common puff-ball shape of an ornamental onion (allium) flower.

It's walnut season, and I have some black walnuts (mostly collected by my girlfriend) de-hulled.
Now to scrub them like heck with a scrub brush (yes, I have rubber gloves).
Thirteen dehulled black walnuts - they look like rough-shelled round nuts rather than rotting tennis balls at this point - sitting on the bottom of my sink, which is filling with water. None of them are floating, which I gather is a good sign. There's a fourteenth nut already out of the bath because it came out pretty cleanly from the get-go.

One single sheep. Drawn in MS Paint using a black "oil paint brush". It is the stick-figure equivalent of a sheep. A cartoon cloud with four stick legs, one of them bent as though taking a step. This particular sheep has a completely inaccurate black blob of a nose, a smiley mouth, and black dot for an eye, and an oblong black blob for an ear. The sheep is shown in profile. At the sheep's feet are eight pairs of short, green, vertical (ish) lines representing grass. A thin black line, drawn using the "calligraphy brush" is issuing from the sheep's ostensible head, leading to the word "B a a a" hand-drawn with the same brush, in an effort to clue people into what they're looking at. One single sheep. You're welcome.

Baby's First Embroidery Project: A teeny, tiny flower (Plum blossom? Apple blossom?) that lives under my right arm where my dress tore in early July.

The purple is a mix of cotton lace-weight yarn and a darker purple nylon thread (to keep things from shrinking, I hope).

We'll see how it holds up!

So, my polycule participated in Parks Canada's #LockNPaddle today.
It was a very fun time. (I got to be the Queen, and just hang out in a canoe with a parasol, so it was great).
BUT
I think they missed an opportunity:

Teeny-tiny basket-weave (sort-of) mend on a towel-edge.
Would have been much easier if I'd put it on some kind of frame, but here we are.
A burgundy, ring-spun cotton towel that has had a substantial (well, 1" x 2") tear(?) hole(?) at its edge mended with a bit of hand-weaving done in light blue variegated cotton dish-cloth yarn. (The piece is shown folded over on itself, so it kind of looks like the mend is in the middle of the piece, rather than along the edge). A burgundy, ring-spun cotton towel that has had a substantial (well, 1" x 2") tear(?) hole(?) at its edge mended with a bit of hand-weaving done in light blue variegated cotton dish-cloth yarn. (The piece has been photographed while lying across my knees, so you can see my white striped blue dress in the background).

In other news, my wife is an engineer.

One of her construction customers (kitchen reno) was like "By all means, take this off our hands!" so we have a free, new-to-us chest of drawers with a granite counter top in our kitchen now.
A white chest of drawers with three wide drawers and four narrow drawers, the top one-of-which is missing. The drawers are capped with a 400lb piece of black granite. Which my wife lifted BY HERSELF. Because she's amazing.

Ahem. I'm (very, very excited to be) in the latest edition of Grain Magazine. Which is now available.

My poem, "Bloodroot", became a better piece during the editing process with them.

A terrible photo (that I've fiddled with so the colours are more visible). Purple, orange, and basic black. Plus two mini waffle irons, and four frying pans (three not shown because they're on the stove).
Had a blue, ovular one, but it... went missing? During 2020?? (I'm baffled).

They are tender and delicious. I think they'd be even better if I'd added extra dill.

Took the pic before I topped them with tzaziki which, fyi, has worked out wonderfully.
A while ceramic cereal bowl, balanced on the plaid-upholstered arm of an easy chair. The bowl contains four "baked until golden-brown" pork meatballs, flecked with basil, chives, and dill. There is also a fork in the bowl. The photo is a little blurry because I look it between eating meatballs and eating meatballs. I assure you, they are delicious.
