Ensure physical accessibility & consider physical barriers that may fatigue/hurt/etc disabled folk.

Consider sensory requirements for folks who have sensitivities to light, sound, smells, etc.

Communicate accessibility measures about facilities like bathrooms, seating, wheelchair accessibility, etc. Proactivity is key!

Solidarity is an ACTION! Continue to be willing to learn, accept feedback, and show support for the disabled community!

Speak out when you may be met with ableist language, poor accessibility, or any opportunity to bring solidarity to disabled folks. We are often so tired/in pain because of our disability or illness to speak up ourselves.

Ableism - The discrimination of and social prejudice against people with disabilities based on the belief that typical abilities are superior.

At its heart, ableism is rooted in the assumption that disabled people require ‘fixing’ and defines people by their disability. Like racism and sexism, ableism classifies entire groups of people as ‘less than,’ and includes harmful stereotypes, misconceptions, and generalizations of people with disabilities.

Immunocompromised - Having a weakened immune system. People who are immunocompromised have a reduced ability to fight infections and other diseases. This may be caused by certain diseases or conditions, such as AIDS, cancer, diabetes, malnutrition, and certain genetic disorders. It may also be caused by certain medicines or treatments, such as anticancer drugs, radiation therapy, and stem cell or organ transplant. Also called immunosuppressed.

Listen to your disabled friends and family, ask questions, and accept feedback!

Understand and unpack the impact of ableism on everybody, not just disabled people.

Dyanamic Disabilities exist! Some people are able to be ‘normally’ one day, and then unable to move the next.

Familiarize yourself on viral illnesses, chronic illness, and mass disabling events.

Accomodations for disabled people help all! Ex. seating, flexible schedules, railings, elevators, drive up/delivery services.

If you have all of your needs met financially, please consider donating/giving to folks who are living on a set income, dealing with medical bills, or unable to work. A lot of us are under the poverty line.

Vote in elections vote for candidates that support accessibility and reject ableism.

At the vet with my oldest girl, Aspen. She’s showing signs of arthritis/joint pain and I’m like 😭😭😭😭

Hi!!!! I’m looking to connect with fellow chronically ill covid conscious folks!! I live in Oklahoma but we are moving back to Pittsburgh PA next year. I love plants, making colorful art, & cookies and cream ice cream!
