I think part of the reason I liked the mutant imagery in the second half is because it reminded me of that scene in ALIEN: RESURRECTION--hardly the strongest in the franchise, but the when new Ripley sees all the previous iterations is one of the most chilling scenes.

Yeah, they'd be related in vibe and elements. I'm just not sure how best people might appreciate them, dropped one at a time or all at once.

I think the reason the first half felt weaker to me is that it cribbed a lot from ANACONDA.

The way it was attracted to fire rather than repelled was a nice touch. Bolstered by a good main cast. The family angle was a bit meh, but that part of the story had its moments, too.
Don't think they can belabor the mutants much more, though, if they make another one.
