That's a good approach. I feel like the outline is really just a tool I use to figure out a general direction, setting, and characters then I just go wild with it. 😅

I took it to mean the inciting incident needs to be within the first 20% but can be anywhere within that section.

I'm still trying to figure out the percentages but I like that if I get stuck I can glance at this and estimate where I should be in the storyline. I've never used Evernote. Is it easy to use?

I see what you mean but I think a lot of authors (myself included) get stuck when they want the first draft to be perfect and so they just don't write anything. In those instances, written words are better than nothing. Learning how to rewrite is important though. I agree with you there.
