For most people, the tech comes after the experience. And Mastodon's heavy UI around “your server IS your community, and other servers are 2nd class citizens” is a shit experience.

Here's hoping that federated Bluesky doesn't fuck it up.

Bluesky has the good UX that the fediverse lacks. Fast app, good notifications, easy signup, custom domains without a server, real reposts, search! Given the fediverse had the critical mass and better timing, this will be a great test of how much UX matters.

My guess is UX is all that matters.
