I see this black-and-white/"all or nothing" thinking all the time from both progressives (my own party affiliation!) and the Trumpian segments of the Republican Party, where the default is to think their ideals are near flawless and gloat/shame when people don't meet that mettle. It's maddening.

+ but there has to come a moment where you concede, even if just a little bit, and realize that your way of thinking about the world, be it about social issues, the economy/the budget, geopolitics, etc, has flaws and may need some level of compromise to be realized.

Like, I get if you're weary of change, and I also get if there's underlying mental health changes that make it hard to accept change, like an older person's brain having a harder time being flexible in their thinking, +
