Sec. McMahon: "Going forward, the correct application of FERPA will be to empower all parents to protect their children from the radical ideologies that have taken over many schools"

Madame Secretary, you must not know who decides what laws mean. You're not a judge or Congress. Womp womp.

Working with an interdisciplinary team, we have developed a website to communicate how the White House's proposed cuts to health research would cause losses of $16B and 68,500 jobs.

Thinking of our CDC colleagues, many of whom are expected to receive termination notices today between 3 and 5 pm ET. We love you. Your work matters. You matter.

Can confirm. IT would never sign off. We have to file a ticket to get Teams on our phones, and only people without access to PII can get that.
To clarify: no, government phones do *not* come with Signal installed.

What people in every part of higher education need to understand is that Republicans now want to do to universities what they’ve tried to do to labor unions: erase them from the institutional landscape. The question is how much you want to collaborate in your own destruction.

This is the email account accepting the Five Things replies for federal workers. I'm not saying to make lists of five things. I'm not saying that many listicle articles are five things. I'm just saying this is interesting information.
We were informed that the hr17@opm.gov email has become active again. You know what not to do.

Yeah, you can apply for new income-driven repayment plans on federal student loans as of yesterday. The loans aren't going away even if Department of Education is eventually dismantled.

26-27 FAFSA is published for public comment through 4/7/25: www.regulations.gov/docket/ED-20...

The most popular comment so far is about the gender/biological sex question. It's not going to be changed because of the Executive Order on biological sex.

26-27 FAFSA should open 10/1/25.

About the Executive Order from last week, the President did say during his press conference that the popular Pell Grant would be protected. Pell helps low income families pay for college. There's no layout of a plan in the Executive Order and we don't know what the plan is to protect Pell.

The Executive Order to close Dept of Ed is short and easy enough to read. It doesn't commit to anything like moving loans to SBA or protecting Pell or disabled students.

Created this account while losing sleep over what's happening at the Department of Education. I'll share what I can about federal financial aid & student loans as they may be moving out of Education to other agencies.
