there will always be people with more extreme takes but I think it’s best to ignore those and avoid assuming that level of bad faith in all others in a space when there is a valid point at hand regarding the dwindling effectiveness of a gerontocratic dem party.
April 29, 2025 at 12:44 AM
i’m sincerely sorry people aren’t being kind to you, that always feels horrible online. i do think the negative sentiment from other replies to you comes at least in part from your statements sometimes starting from bad faith, eg assuming in this thread that myself or geo were celebrating cancer
April 29, 2025 at 12:44 AM
yeah could be bad faith but I think they’re probably just a lib with heart in the right place but focused on the wrong things. either way worth a few good faith replies to try and explain the point more clearly but basically never a bad idea to disengage when a reply thread gets too long lol
April 29, 2025 at 12:30 AM
i’ll assume you’re good faith—most of us are not celebrating him having cancer, but him stepping down. i’ve had 2 close family members die from cancer, i wouldn’t wish it on anyone. it’s still very selfish for elected officials to cling onto power vs passing the torch as their effectiveness dwindles
April 29, 2025 at 12:25 AM
even if we pretend that the Legislative Effectiveness Score means anything in the time we’re in, gerry scored 1.073 in the 118th congress. so yes, he has become significantly less effective by both your metric and in his evident ability to message and push back as the ranking member of oversight
