Autumn/winter allotment veg round up:
probably my best brussels sprouts plant ever,
red cabbage starting to heart up,
plenty of carrots (so much easier to get going from a late summer sowing than in spring),
finally a test bed of three different parsnip varieties to see which grows best on clay. 🌱
An excellent looking brussels sprouts plant, very tall with sprouts developing. Red cabbage, nice big leaves, heart forming. Chantenay red core carrots sown in July, seedlings weren’t mostly eaten by slugs like those I sowed in spring, some already ready to harvest. A bed of parsnips, one row each of “Palace”, “Hollow Crown” and “Student” to compare how they do on our heavy clay soil.

Today’s #veggiegarden #harvest. I keep roasting trays of chocolate #cherrytomatoes as fast as I pick them as there is such a flood; then I freeze them for intense #summerflavor in winter. The #berkshires weather has created a great #growingseason!

I’m taking care of our friends’ garden while they’re in Poland and France for a few weeks. The blackberries did not even make it to the car. I ate them while I watered the plants and picked more tomatoes. 😋

Nice edamame harvest this year. It's been several years since I grew them. A very low labor crop. I grew two butternut squash plants this year. These 8 are the first to ripen. There are 5 more on the vine. I'm not sure they will ripen as the days grow cooler and shorter. 🌱 #vegetablegardening

Ground Cherry jam is our absolute favorite. I made the first batch this week. I use the recipe for Sweet Cherry Jam in the Ball Book of Home Preserving, and substitute Cardamom for Cloves. 🌱 #vegetablegardening #organicgardening

took this video a month ago and this ONE Sungold tomato vine is now at least 2 ft taller than the veg cage and producing a ton. I’ve had to cover the front with a barrier against the deer delighted I’m growing something outside Vegetable Alcatraz. 🌱
