A kind reminder, if you are into books, join your local library!

Even if you only want ebooks in your life, most libraries can lend you ebooks!

This isn't just a US thing. My local european library lets me have 10 ebooks at a time.

So for those who like to hop stories, just do it.

Look, Microsoft is not gonna stop. Windows will keep being more and more stuffed with useless features and monitoring.

Good news is: Linux is ready for you.

It really is as easy to use as windows nowadays! You don't have to touch the dreaded terminal.

In most cases your PC will become faster!

I'm sure Musk's support of AfD has nothing to do with him being raised in Apartheid South Africa

Trump renaming gulf of Mexico to gulf of America.

My brother....there's a whole US state called New Mexico. Is that the next step?

To the people who didn't vote for Kamala to protest her policies on Gaza.

How is that working out for you?
February 5, 2025 at 8:18 AM
@vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu will you step up and fill the gap left by the US administration?

Too long has the EU played second fiddle. It is clear that the US government is pursuing a myopic egotistical policy.

Will we step up to the motto "United in Diversity"?

Are we afraid?

Hey Dems, here's an idea for 2028

Pitbull as VP.

Is it nonsense? Yeah, but so is everything you've been trying to appeal to the "Latino" vote so.... At least get Mr Worldwide in there.

If it turns out to be another trainwreck at least we will get some nice music out of it.

It's insane the amount of technology the average user has access to. Smartphones are kind of a miracle.

There are issues with them and yeah we should've acted way sooner on things like social media. But there's no denying how much good they did.

The youngest generations are incredibly connected.

I don't want to post just negative things.

I am practicing my Spanish by changing Helldivers 2's voice lines to Spanish. Surprising effective.

The amount of media we have access to nowadays is staggering!

This is as much a Trump win as it is a Democrat failure.

Y'all managed to drop the ball twice (almost thrice) in a 12 year period.

The only solid argument you had was "We aren't Trump".

Looking forward to 2028: "We aren't Vance"

Will you be using Necromancy to bring back the next candidate?
January 21, 2025 at 12:33 PM
These prophylactic pardons Biden is administering are a grim enough reminder of times to come by themselves.

The thing is, Trump can just come up with other reasons to go after these people. Don't take it for granted that you will be saved because the outgoing president wrote a piece of paper.

Inb4 Trump allows TikTok to stay if it's renamed to TrumpTok and one of his kids is on the board.

I'm surprised they haven't suggested it yet. It's not like he cares about Truth Social.

If AI is supposed to solve everything can I get an AI assistant that summarizes the news but also divides them into slop/hype and actual news?

I don't want to know what to look at but more what to safely ignore.

Like many in the early/mid 2000s I found myself looking at Musk as a real life Iron Man.

Here was a guy that was going to just make a ton of cool tech that was going to save us.

Seems like without the real villains to fight Musky Man has decided to create his own.

Didnt know being rich was boring

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I think we should be focusing more on what the companies do with our data when we use LLMs.

OpenAI and co seem to be running out of data. It would be a shame if they were to suddenly realize the potential here (if they haven't already).

The argument I spend the most time countering is the classic:

"I have nothing to hide" w.r.t online privacy and safety.

Different flavours of "It's about having something to protect" seem to be mildly ineffective.

The VW case with all the leaked location data has been an effective example.

It's so crazy to me that I have a fairly high end desktop I assembled 3years ago and apparently it doesn't meet Windows 11 requirements.

At this point Windows is telling me the only way I can keep getting security updates is upgrading a perfectly good PC or switching to Linux.

Opening my feed today and hearing how Meta wants to add AI users to Instagram.

Can’t wait for Meta to get sued for their bots catfishing people.

You can dislike someone and generally disagree with them on pretty much everything. And still, they can make valid points from time to time.

That being said, just make sure you are both coming from an intellectually honest vibe.

I still think calling it the “Invisible Hand” that guides the market seems kinda odd.
Makes it seem like some higher force when, in fact, there are plenty of cases of people/govs/corps moving and guiding that hand.

Been on Bluesky for a few weeks now. Discover page actually contains things I want to see (+a few others that I have enjoyed discovering).
A welcome and refreshing take considering the competing bird app would always shove conspiracy and extremist takes down my throat.

Anyone that says that being depressed is somehow a character issue or a sign of weakness misses a few points including:
-“Pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” was meant as sarcasm uselessetymology.com/2019/11/07/t...
-There are environmental factors that worsen depression that you cant control.
The Origins of the Phrase “Pull Yourself Up By Your Bootstraps”
The phrase “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” originated shortly before the turn of the 20th century. It’s attributed to a late-1800s physics schoolbook that contained the exam…

Part of my journey through this weird timeline has also been realizing that I’m somewhat thankful I didn’t end up dating some of the people I had crushes on.
Like yeah, you’re cute and all but your concept of saving money needs to be at a 10th grade level at least.

It can be quite hard to work on improving yourself. Sometimes the parts of your life that are holding you back can feel like they are key parts of your own being. Just remember that who you are can and will change and that that’s fine.
