This lot have always existed in one form or another. They used to be against gay marriage, anti drag/camp/femme, or kink at pride but the idea that their deeply bland, conservative approach to being gay is somehow superior remains. They are also never hot.

Randomly caught the Next Generation episode "Coming of Age" and it's one of those episodes that generates so many questions. Why were there all those actors in the Academy test when holodecks? Did every officer we have ever seen go through this? Even Barclay?
