My 25 for 2025. This list is entirely aspirational, and I'd be thrilled if I finish even half of these next year. #BookSky #Books
Saw "Wake Up Dead Man" tonight and highly recommend it. Rian Johnson honors the locked room mystery while also poking fun at its more preposterous aspects. The story is thrilling, and every actor is giving 100%.

And as a fan of Poirot-style mysteries, I was giddy at every twist and turn. 1/

On this #Thanksgiving, consider donating to the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.

From their website:

"It’s fair to say that without the support of our ancestors, the Mayflower’s voyage would have ended in failure."

I'm from central Wisconsin. Every year, when I visit for Thanksgiving, I stop in at Janke Bookstore in Wausau, which has been in operation since 1919.

This year, I filled up a basket with new and used books, plus quite a few gently used vinyl records from their basement. Highly recommend. #booksky

I cannot second this enough.

My very rural, very red county had no Dem Party in 2016. After Trump won, a friend got it going. I helped her with campaigns, canvases, parades, newsletters...you name it.

We both stepped aside this year, after 8 years, with 60+ members and a year-round office.
Most local parties are run by people who've done the job for years because no one stepped up. So step up.

Be authentically you. Speak to your community.

There is a MASSIVE leadership vacuum at the local level almost everywhere outside major cities. Fill it.

For anyone in Wisconsin who saw Tammy Baldwin's name on this list and was instantly enraged (like I was), it appears that she's a "No" on the bill, per journalist Molly Beck on the former Twitter site. This Threads list was wrong.

The new Mavis Staples album came out yesterday, and it's beautiful. Probably one of my favorite albums of 2025.

To be 86 years old and still putting out strong, soulful music that speaks to who we are (and who we can be) is such an accomplishment.

Cannot wait to see her live in Chicago.

When people talk about the loss of physical media, they usually focus on DVDs and CDs, and for good reason.

But I worry about audiobooks.

Which is why I went to a library book sale this weekend and bought a stack of audiobooks for $6. #BookSky 1/

No matter how old I get, no matter how jaded and cynical I might be about the world...whenever I see these on a sidewalk or bike path, I immediately scream "FUZZY WUZZY CATERPILLAR!!!" like an over-caffeinated 5-year-old, and spend the next 20 minutes watching it cross to safety.

My school hosted a certain book fair this week. In preparation, I showed my students their book trailers, not realizing the company has started using AI to make them.

My students lost their minds.

"BAD AI! BAD AI!"
"These aren't real people!"
"They didn't even get the eyes right!"

Some of my colleagues get absolutely irate at this stuff, but I think it's one of the true joys of teaching. I get to be the old person who doesn't understand slang terms or their inside jokes. I play it up in class, the kids have a little giggle at my expense, and we move on. It's not that serious.
New York mag published an article about how kids running around yelling “6-7!” is stressing grown ups out and I guess, yeah, part of the existential experience of aging is not knowing what the kids are talking about but I find this hilarious and mundane and not worthy of think-pieces lol
