A maddening thing for cabbies (in chicago, at least), was when taxis continued to be highly regulated (your medallion could be suspended if your car’s ext. decals were the wrong size, etc) but “ride share” cars were uninspected and Uber/Lyft were allowed to “self-regulate” incl pricing.

My dad, a taxi driver who owned his medallion, watched as Uber/Lyft destroyed his industry and decimated the value of his medallion (his retirement savings). Didn’t take but a couple more years for Uber/Lyft to make work conditions unbearable for their own drivers.

Starting in January 2024, officers cannot start traffic stop interactions by asking “Do you know why I pulled you over?” and instead must state the purpose of the traffic stop before asking any other questions. The same goes for any stops conducted on a pedestrian thehill.com/homenews/sta...
California police can no longer ask common question at a traffic stop starting in 2024
If you’ve been pulled over, there’s a good chance the officer has asked a specific question. But California cops won’t be able to do so in 2024.
