I am very proud to have played a role on this change in policy at the University of Bristol - who are now looking to implement a qualified ban on intimate staff-student relationships, where the staff member has academic or pastoral responsibility for a student.

Students saying the feel more at home in their subject, or that they're speaking in seminars for the first time ever is really touching.

These are final year, final term students... I'm pleased Philosopher Queens makes an impact.

I spoke to women leaving academia posts because they feel universities are protecting predatory professors.

Is this one cause for the ‘leaky pipeline’ problem, which sees women falling out of academia at every rung of the ladder?
The journalists at @mediastormpod.bsky.social podcast are fab and always speak to the unheard voices often ignored by the media. So many great episodes but this recent one is relevant to our research ecosystems.

I told my students I once got a marriage proposal in a unit reviews, with the student writing 'I will lower my emissions, please marry me!'

Cheekily, one has now written 'Alix I swear I'll start thinking of political theory as philosophy please marry me' 😆

They are very much joking of course!

As I think about a friend whose family lost their LA home yesterday, I feel anger at those who, as usual, insist that "now is not the time to talk about climate change" because it "politicizes" suffering. If we want to save lives, we must address climate change.

My PhD advisor Garrett Brown, whom I have not spoken to in years due to his behavior, is now funded by a far right conspiracy organization and happily attending their conference as a speaker.

Leaving him behind years ago was definitely the best decision. Big yikes.

'Based on what we experienced in Bonn [at the SB60], a finance deal at Baku that delivers climate action for developing countries seems a long way off.'

Sad to see this realized.

Reading the #COP29 summary and not surprised to see that the just transition work programme could not reach an agreement, with discussions to continue at SB62 in 2025.

At #COP28, the work program developed a scope so narrow it was unworkable for the Global South, and negotiations collapsed at SB60.
