Started relistening to the audiobook of Mira Grant's Parasite. Just got to a part where it's explained that, with people using genetically tailored tapeworms as healthcare, anti-parasitic drugs are getting harder to get. And I thought, there shouldn't be anything in this book that I'm envious of...

Watching a 16yo ask reddit for help to access snapchat because it's incorrectly identifying them as underage and be given an endless stream of false nostalgia BULLSHIT about how much better their life will be without social media (snapchat is literally the only one they can't access) is MADDENING.

*flails excitedly* The title is a interesting one. It's a quote from Othello, about a wife's allegiance changing from her father to her husband after marriage. And the cover is interesting! Very pointed ears, rose petals, and, are those goblins, perhaps?
Who wants to see the cover of the new* October Daye book?

(*"New" meaning "releasing in 2026.")

Today began with sleep paralysis (not mine, still A Lot), and is wrapping up with the Wrong Pizza being delivered. For the first time ever, I think?
At least Pizza Hut makes contacting the store pretty easy, and our local store is new and was very good about a quick new pizza.

The Algorithm has much to answer for, but I do appreciate that it has learnt that it should get my attention when someone comes to r/cathelp only to be told that their cat does not have ticks, moles, or other problems, they just have nipples.

This feels like it's what happens when the people making decisions and the ones justifying those decisions only know war from video games...
Fox News' Joey Jones justifies the US military killing survivors after an initial boat strike: "An enemy combatant does not have to have a gun to be a danger or a threat... if you leave anybody alive, they can signal and let others know what’s happening and they can also retaliate through radio."

Well this is deeply disappointing.
I'll give you the short version: they sponsored & supported the most influential AIDS denialist group of the 2000's, resulting in national policies in South Africa that caused an estimated 330,000 deaths there.

They have never apologized or acknowledged what they did.

Power outage, intermittent mobile internet outages, and it's over 30°c today. Very bad combination.

Read an article today about an Australian woman with regret for her AU$38k university bill*, and again I pondered that we don't know how lucky we are in this country.
Even as we push the government to improve, we should be grateful for where we're standing when we start pushing.

So the government's shared equity program kicks off next week. That means I should talk to one of the lenders who are part of it if I want a chance to get into the initial 10k buyers who can apply this year.
It's a great opportunity - 2% deposit and the government will pay for 30% of the property.

Agentic is an annoying word.

It looks like a type of fungus or a beetle.

It's Friday! Had my catchup with my boss and she's very happy with me. Now I just have to sit through a potentially hour and a half demonstration of something I've already seen demonstrated like five times, and I should be free from meetings for the rest of the day 😊

Yeah, "more conservative with age" is correlation, not causation. People get more conservative as they acquire more capital. Millennials are struggling with that at a higher rate than previous generations. Why would we support capitalism if it's not supporting us?
Millennials are the first generation to move left as they age
Millennials are bucking trends, becoming an increasingly progressive voting bloc and rewriting the long-held rules of politics, writes Isabella Higgins.

I was dubious about adding this little packet to my ramen (tiny bonus packets have a tendency to burniness), but who can resist a little sprinkle of spite?

Turned out to be pretty good, actually. Just a little spice and salt.

Back in March I bought a cheap set of over the shoulder speakers from aliexpress. Still one of the best purchases I've made in ages. Short-listed alongside the dishwasher safe, non-stick cookware I've been picking up lately. Makes me much more likely to cook!

It's not just New York. It's everywhere! In fact, the teaching of Arabic numbers is so widespread, do you know what people call them??

Numbers.
when I was young, i used to wonder how people like this would fare in life, as they didn't seem suited for gainful employment. it turns out, the internet allowed them to accumulate a massive audience of similar idiots, enriching them and turning them into a presidential advisor

What's funny is, if this was fiction, you'd be mad if the reason for the evil teddy bear that talked about bondage and lighting matches was incompetence rather than an evil scheme.

Let's bring back shame, but this time we should market it as a luxury item.
"Shame! The cool new experience for the wealthy and powerful when being judged by the general public!"
We'll sell it at a rate that's a percentage of their $ value, scaled by how many are judging them and how harshly.
