Welcome! I am an amateur historian, writer, science nerd, & Huntersville Commissioner in NC. I geek out over governance, local history, and how topics like climate science & the economy connect to daily life. Expect slice-of-life updates on hiking, birding, gaming, and books I’m reading. 🌿📚
Fascism doesn’t start with tanks. It starts with silencing opponents, threatening officials, and gutting public services. As a Commissioner, I see the power and fragility of democracy. Local government is one frontline—and I will keep showing up to protect your rights.

As far as I can tell, Khalil has still not been charged & his attorney/family still don’t know where he is.

Any Jew who thinks this is going to start and stop with a few Palestinian activists is fooling themselves. Our community should not be used as an excuse to upend democracy & the rule of law.

Crowds are massive in Silver Spring, Maryland…the home of NOAA. People chanting, “Save NOAA Now!” and “We will not weather the storm.” Make your voices heard and keep it up. #NOAA #NWS Severe Weather is on its Way. And so is hurricane season. 🌀 🧪

A fellow Semester at Sea F00 alum who works for USAID recently said, “I never imagined my work would be vilified by the world’s richest man for being inherently humane.”

Seeing my former employer, Global Refuge, targeted is soul-crushing.

Prime Minister Trudeau delivered an exceptional message tonight, to Canadians, Americans, and the world.

Stars can be messy, too.

One of my favorite images of 2024 was captured by the Hubble Space telescope. It's a stunning image of a binary star called R Aquarii that regularly "spews" gas on its neighbors in a stunning spectacle of light.

In a 5-0 vote, last night we adopted an ordinance designating the property known as the Caldwell-Bradwell School in Huntersville as a historic landmark. It is one of the only known extant one-teacher schoolhouses remaining in Mecklenburg County.

All I want is a cabin in the mountains, the next cozy fantasy by @rebeccathorne.bsky.social a crackling fire, a basket of emotional support pastries, and a functioning democracy with equal rights for all. That’s not too much to ask for, right?

A bookstore birthday party?!?!Each of the party guests purchased the birthday girl a book from her TBR table. This is a win-win for the guest of honor AND the bookstore. This is such a cool way to celebrate your birthday #BookSky 📚🎂

Sat by the firepit this morning with a cup of tea, watching a Downy woodpecker hammer away at the same tree they have been visiting for weeks. Do they have favorite spots, or are they just persistent? Either way, I admire the commitment! #birding #nature

Transformative change begins at the local level. Want to get involved? You can start by learning how decisions are made by your town/city council, who represents you, and where you can make a difference. Understanding is the first step to action. #LocalGov #CivicEngagement #USPOL

Bleak. And also I remain surprised that so many people are surprised that tradwives and other influencers (finance, fitness, cooking, fashion, etc) whose whole focus is about selling a commodity lifestyle that is exclusionary are conservatives
Multiple consultants and PR reps told me brands no longer care about influencers promoting MAGA. “Honestly,” one consultant told me, “people lose more brand deals talking about Palestine than anything else.” www.thecut.com/article/infl...
