Ever wondered what 1,300 books like? Thanks @goldsborobooks.bsky.social and @bloomsburybooksuk.bsky.social
Book out on 6 November. It tells the story of the real Dr Asperger - was he an amazing pioneer of autism research or a Nazi collaborator?

New novel 'The Matchbox Girl' out from @bloomsburybooksuk.bsky.social November. 12 year old Adelheid tells the story of real Dr Asperger and the staff of the Curative Education Ward in Nazi occupied Vienna. Who tells the stories of the people who were not heroes?

Read George Saunders ‘A Swim in a Pond in the Rain’ pub Bloomsbury. Brilliant book. Made me feel vindicated. Don’t teach much now as often felt badly out of step with what students think, want, believe. This book made me believe in teaching again. Also sheer pleasure to read.

Some brilliant books have reviewed (or tried to review) this year. Hard to choose but House of Doors Tan Twan Eng @canongate.co.uk right at the top. Also North Woods Daniel Mason pub John Murray which is both erudite and great fun.

Reviewed Absolution (Bloomsbury) by American writer Alice McDermott in The TLS. Kind of novel I love. Brilliant characters (particularly Charlene) and a constant uncertainty about where to place one’s sympathies. Great Xmas present for anyone who loves a good story - and brilliant writing.

Rather beautifully atmospheric photo of protest outside Gloucester Crown Court in support of Trudi Warner who faces arrest for speaking the truth about the Climate Emergency. No books on a dead planet …… (I am first beret from left).
