Alongside countless animal encyclopaedias, I really loved Hunkin’s almost everything there is to know, which had little black and which cartoon panels explaining almost everything there is to know!

I love seeing all the beautiful work in the #SciArt feed, it so much joy to my scrolling !!

I am not a contributor (I would love to be if that’s ok!) but here is some of my sciart as a tribute.

Went to Rotterdam Zoo today as I had a late train after a conference. I still struggle with the confidence to draw things that move (what??? Decision making???) but I did capture some silly biods.

Cryptophyllium westwoodii 🍃

I really like symmetrical insects AND circles are cool so I’ve had this idea for a while but finally found some time to put pen (Apple Pencil) to paper (iPad) after a super busy time finishing up PhD and entering the working world!
Male, female and juvenile leaf insects arranged in a circle with three lines of symmetry. The female is wide and very leafy and slightly paler than the male, which looks a little like a praying mantis in shape. The juvenile is bright red with some yellow and cream spots. They also all have googly eyes because I find that funny.
