A beautiful reflection on the value of long term therapy. How we get society to hear it I don’t know…
I work at a place where therapy is thought of as managing patient behavior, find ways to have them “feel better,” (I really don’t know what that means, and everything (understandably to a certain extent) is thought of based on money, on cost, on efficiency.

After quite the hiatus from Bluesky, here’s another podcast recommendation. I loved the immediacy, accessibility and apparent potency which psychoanalytic ideas had in these (ostensibly non-psychoanalytic) groups. What power they held for these parents and children! open.spotify.com/episode/5MqM...

I’ve booked onto a fantastic-looking workshop next week covering Harm in Therapy with @aclientfirst.bsky.social - so, so refreshing to receive full and thoughtful information prior to the event about accessibility and setting out precisely how the event will run. Thank you Erin for your care.

What I learned about being a woman outdoors during my Winter Munro Round
Anna Wells was the first woman to complete a Winter Munro Round. So, what did it teach her about being a woman outdoors?

Not me carefully reading the prospectuses for various analytic trainings when I really don’t have the money or time to commit to even preparing for entry to one…. 🙃

Today’s musings whilst on our daily walk - I should try roller skiing. I have spent the last few hours researching where this would be possible… I blame this weeks’ BBC Scotland #OutOfDoors episode:

What’s a girl to do when the 2025 diary she ordered last year (admittedly on Boxing Day) has been ‘delayed in transit’ and won’t arrive until the middle of this month? Beginning of January ruined 😵‍💫

More wonderful Winnicott. Such an enlivening contrast to the now (undeniably realistic, important and necessary) much more widespread awareness of the negatives and challenges of motherhood.

Ah Winnicott. So reassuring and *sensible*. Why this isn’t taught in antenatal classes I’ll never know.

What a glorious, generous piece. Gives me hope of becoming a writer. The microscopic examination of language - of course - what else would one expect of an analyst? - made me realise I’ll never read anything in the same way again.

Another dog walk, another podcast. I loved this. Dr Sedlak seemed so warm and wise. I particularly enjoyed his distinction between the analyst’s ego ideal and superego, and his recommendation that analysts give themselves a break in the face of not understanding.

Christmas spoils! Very excited to re-discover this at my own pace after using it selectively during my training. No McWilliams or Coltart under the tree for me though, so I’ll be scouring the January sales…

Just catching up with this year’s Reith lectures: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...
I love Dr Gwen Adshead’s deeply human stance towards people in prison and hospital - so, so important for meaningful, real therapy and very inspiring.

Such a good write up of Grendon - a shame the value of it isn’t seen more widely or that its underpinning principles aren’t applied across the estate. www.theguardian.com/society/2024...

I so enjoyed listening to this conversation on my dog walk today. It was refreshing to think more deeply about Winnicott and his contribution, as I think he’s often overlooked for being too ‘informal’ to be a ‘proper’ analyst: open.spotify.com/episode/38cW...
