Enjoying the autumn leaves on the ground.
November 8, 2025 at 4:37 PM
My attention in the garden is usually piqued by blossom, fruit and early autumn colours. But the leaves are still pretty this time of year, especially on a clear day like today.

When my mid-morning coffee looks like this I am thrilled.

It’s all very well buying forks for the staff room. But in order to used them I would need to remember to bring them to the staff room. (Said forks are still sitting in my bag from Sunday, as yet unwashed). At least the lone plastic fork is here.

This evening I have put the dishwasher on three times #OntologicalOctober #Day28 (Well, I havenmg quite put it on for the third time yet, but I will before going to bed).

In related news, my daughter made a really yummy cake this afternoon.

I forgot (again) to do my #OntologicalOctober #Day25 post last night. It was good to spend time with family, and see the children playing. Young children playing and the detritus around it, is a joy.

I also got to play Mexican Train and Scrabble myself.

I wish I had done this in my first year of university!

Interesting post about generative AI use in marking & a reason-people not having time to mark.

I’m thinking about how marking should be a useful experience for the assessor, not only to provide feedback and grading for students, but to learn about needs and from students’ ideas. The ideal anyway.

This isn’t an issue unique to travel. If you aren’t properly familiar with any subject area then you don’t have the knowledge to be able to double check an AI answer (without lots of researching elsewhere).

My 14th #DARTS9 slide was about advocating for librarians' involvement in research, and specifically in systematic reviews. And sharing my research experiences. I wouldn't have talked about all of these - I do like to share my experiences rather a lot!

Today’s lunch at work. Cheese and onion pasties made by my daughter at school earlier in the week. They’re delicious!

Telling my teenage daughter what I’m doing (explaining the dots abbreviations) and she says she does an ampersand for ‘and’ - when writing by hand. I cannot do this! She looked it up and learnt how. #LTHEChat A1

Today I put old children’s stuff with use still in it out on our driveway and, while I was cooking a yummy roast dinner, it was nearly all taken away (including these pencils which I sharpened yesterday to make them appealing) - wonderful! #SemanticSeptember #Day21

Having great fun sorting in the hope that neighbours will want to take our unneeded stuff if they know that it works. And am finding a fair few useful pencils as well.

Am certain this is a good use of my time :)

You may live to regret this… (I have been brave and thrown the notebook - which also included drafts of letters to pen pals, bits of homework, and a list of books I read that summer, and beyond. Limited myself to only a few photos).

Well Anthony Trollope. The only reason I didn’t read these four in succession is because you put The Eustace Diamonds in the middle of them, and went on to write The Duke’s Children afterwards!

When you have a new toy (a new & worthwhile tool I mean!) & you can’t focus on using it as there’s computer work that must be prioritised. I’m kind of disappointed a meeting I thought I had this morning has been cancelled, as I was looking forward to the opportunity to take some transferable notes.

I’m keeping the blackberry till after I finish the drink. Having to pick it up every time I take a sip ensures I don’t drink the cocktail too quickly!

Why yes, it does actually! And also had a human sized dinosaur visiting at some point (which I discovered when searching Instagram for a picture of the other one).

I did prepare for this last night, but finally getting out of the freezer a random treat breakfast I’ve had in the freezer for months - finally making use of reduced food bought on a whim. It didn’t suit everyone, but it was a nice meal for me.

As I am scheduling in lots of information literacy teaching for the coming semester (and other librarians with similar jobs to me, are likely to be doing the same), I thought it a good time to share my blog post about being a teaching librarian researcherlibrarian.wordpress.com/2025/01/26/t...

Look what my daughter just brought downstairs! She’s made it, freehand, with her 3D pen. It’s modelled on a little toy that looks similar, but just from drawing around the base to start, and then looking at it. I’m very impressed.

My 13th #DARTS9 slide involved some work to establish how to display what I wanted to talk about: the impact that researching has had & might have on future research opportunities. There were so many links all over the place, I wanted to demo this with a flow chart, using MS Visio for the 1st time.

Weeding is not one of my librarian strengths :) But look, I have put together this whole pile of books for recycling!

I can except that an old bedraggled paperback like this should probably go in the bin…
