Historian of eugenics here. I don't normally like to retweet bad arguments, but this is such a fundamental misunderstanding of eugenics, I think it's important to point out. I don't have time to debunk all of the ways this is inaccurate, but I'll highlight a few things and then recommend some books🧵

A history of the Republican Party and a rightwing radicalization, unfolding over decades, that ultimately paved the way for Trump’s rise.

Humanities are the antidote to the empire’s greatest weapon: ignorance. They expose how history is weaponized to justify conquest, and how culture is polished to erase resistance. When you attack the humanities, you attack the very tools people use to unlearn oppression.

This a thread about one feature of the Trump Admin's EO regarding the Smithsonian that I haven't seen much explicit discussion of. The stated purpose for reviewing Smithsonian exhibits and collections is to ensure they align with something called "Americanism." That term has a notable genealogy.

This piece is a how-to guide for analyzing cartoons as historical documents and propaganda, but the questions within it apply to all media:

Who made it? Who commissioned it? What's the social/political/cultural context of the piece? What is depicted and whose perspective informed that choice?
So, this week, in lieu of a film review, I shared a learning resource I wrote a few years ago that was published behind a paywall.

Some of our best scholarly sources are locked away from the people who would benefit from them most and I find that despicable.
