American working on the Caucasus and Turkey, focusing on Armenian and Circassian issues. Yaratılışta bilgim olmadan var olan ne varsa rızam olmaksızın var.
There comes a time in every man's life when his sister's obsessive lesbian fanbase discovers you're in Turkey and write about Turkish politics and make a long post about her advocating for the boycott of regime-aligned businesses.

A lot of Western Anatolian Köfte (meatball) dishes derive from Balkan migrants, but can anyone think of *why* these taste and look so Albanian to me? I asked the owner of the restaurant and he said his family was "from Kosovo, in Skopje."

Düzce saw huge numbers of Circassian, Ubykh, Abkhaz, Laz and Georgian migrants arrive in the 19th Century, and it's not difficult to see why. Germans, Poles and Scandinavians came to the Midwest because it reminded them of home. This place looks and feels like the Caucasus.

I helped write a piece for the latest Central Asia and South Caucasus Bulletin about the trial of the leaders of the former Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

Yes what we learned from the 20s was that inflation results in cool politics, bubbles are good, tariffs are excellent, isolationism works and is chill, and that it's extremely cool when a dumb old right-wing leader relies on fascists with fun and eccentric beliefs about Bronze Age Aryans.

I've been losing weight very quickly since I got back to Istanbul. Probably a combination of factors - can't afford alcohol, very mobile, normal sleeping schedule. But I think a huge part of it is every other meal is chicken, rice and salad.

Today is the 18th anniversary of the assassination of the left-wing Turkish Armenian journalist Hrant Dink. Hrant advocated for reconciliation between Armenians and Turkey, and was broadly recognized as one of the most

The richest man in the world turned the most influential social media application into the Völkischer Beobachter and now he's forcing me to watch his mental breakdown as his alt quote tweets his alt denying that his alt is his alt.

Funny that this cover of Orhan Pamuk's Snow makes the novel's setting, Kars, look physically indistinguishable form the nearby Armenian city of Gyumri.

Day 24 of a protest movement that's supposed to be dying.

More people, higher energy, more positive than I've seen in a very long time. Everyone is waiting for President Zourabichvili to speak.

Georgia is facing a political crisis. The government is illegitimate in the eyes of most of the people, especially the President the government is trying to force through.

Has anyone considered: President and/or Prime Minister Bibiko?

This is so embarrassing. This country deserves a leadership better than this.

You routinely hear from European diplomats and people connected to them that this is a routine occurrence - government lying about every detail of a meeting, and incompetence, arrogance during them.
