This is a great read.

The weird fiction of China Miéville does that rather well. I highly recommend his work.

I’m drawn to writing science fiction because it’s exciting to discover the humanity in an extraterrestrial or synthetic (or synthetic extraterrestrial) protagonist.

And he’s missed you. 😀

A good opening to a novel isn’t genre specific. It needs to be concise, and replete with imagery, in my humble opinion.
