Malcolm X was born one hundred years ago today. It's impossible to distil his complicated legacy into a single idea - but as the US government continues to enable serious global injustice, his efforts to put Black Americans in touch with African and Asian activists seem as relevant as ever.

Since posting this last May, I've read novels that mistake the first and second presidents of Uganda and claim Kwame Nkrumah was in power until the 1970s. I know it's pedantic, but I also feel like fact-checking standards would be higher for historical fiction set on any other continent?
