I'm posting a screenshot of a quote (alt texted) that really resonates with me; it's something I think a lot about as I write the Nudge Stories.

What would our lives be like if our work hours were shortened? Would we be more creative? Build better relationships?

Keeping free time scarce means people pay a lot more for convenience, gratification and any other relief they can buy. It keeps them watching television and its commercials. It keeps them unambitious outside of work. We've been led into a culture that has been engineered to leave us tired, hungry for indulgence, willing to pay a lot for convenience and entertainment, and, most importantly, vaguely dissatisfied with our lives so that we continue wanting things we don't have. We buy so much because it always seems like something is missing."

The entire scenario presented sounded like a science fiction story: ordinary people lured to a deserted town and then driven in a windowless van to what we were told was one of twenty underground cities scattered around the planet. And the purpose of these cities was to preserve and protect humanity. How could we even be here? Why were we here? Why did I feel so normal? Why was Kevin acting so normal?
