Agreed that it def starts in childhood but marketing still plays a huge role esp in adult lit. For example, the hijacking of the "sad girl" online trend to market wildly different books exclusively to young women, even if they could be read & enjoyed by everyone.

It's The Thinker for me. Saw it for the first time on the cover of Stoner by John Williams. Something so very enthralling about his whole disposition.
