Excellent talk by Emmanuel Letavernier on iatrogenic/environmental causes of kidney stones. Vitamin C supplementation during COVID pandemic, vitamin D supplementation possible risk factor for Randalls plaques, hair straightening products glyoxylic acid and galore #kidneywk

Cool article on potential of exon skipping therapies for rare genetic kidney diseases like x-linked Alport syndrome. Uses anti-sense oligonucleotides (ASOs). This type of treatment has been in use for in Duchenne muscular dystrophy journals.lww.com/jasn/pages/a...

Looking forward to ASN (American Society of Nephrology) Kidney Week this week! See list of Geisinger neph presentations/posters encompassing: genetic kidney stone disease, EHR clinical decision support for albuminuria screening, home dialysis program education, pharmacoepidemiology in CKD and more!

I like to keep tabs on what quackery my patients might be reading so I am subscribed to Peter McCullough ™. Looks like I can get a detox of the covid vaccine I got yesterday with some nattokinase/bromelain/curcumin and dandelion oil concoction

Great BP study in VA by Holly Kramer et al showing terminal digit preference (TDP) to “0” and “8” - particularly in those with BP <140/90 (I.e. wishful thinking/recording?). More TDP ( sloppy BP measurement) correlates w/better BP control rates!

I was just asked to evaluate AI-generated educational questions for providers (created by non-specialists for 'educational purposes'), riddled with/nonsensical issues as one might expect but looks possibly professional. Then I asked another AI to spot issues. Obviously, I think this is dumb...!

Great work led by Matt Lanktree on his nephrology genetics could fit into nephrology education and components of a nephrogenetics fellowship (exists at very few places)

Some of the slides on the pro AI in HTN debate from Dr. Sau: lots of potential to use EKG, to predict incident hypertension, personalized treatment, identify those most likely to respond and benefit, improve clinical trial enrollment efficiently

AI on the brain as did introductions for the AHA AI in HTN debate!

Very interesting work by Vivikta Rao on APOL1 Risk Variants in Preeclampsia. Humanized APOL1 mice developed gestation elevation in BP, proteinuria. Reversed by inaxaplin (Vx-147) #hypertension25

I try not to do much self-help type books but this one was laying around an office I was in after several colleagues moved out of the office and was immensely helpful during a challenging time (K to R transition). Highly recommended!

Medication nonadherence is common in HTN and can be detected electronically. In this RCT, combined team-based primary care w/automated identification of pts with antihypertensive medication nonadherence did not lead to improvements in adherence or blood pressure.

New Nordic Renal Diet - missed this nice small RCT of weekly home deliveries of this 'plant-forward' whole food approach. Reduced phos excretion, proteinuria by 39%, weight, abdominal fat.

Overall among the population, intervention increased proteinuria dx but not CKD or GDMT. Among those detected to have albuminuria by home test, 41% w/albuminuria, and those with albuminuria had higher new ACEi/ARB rx and possibly SGLT2i. Encouraging results but more to come to improve GDMT! #ada2025
