Nikki Giovanni has died. Every New Yorker has a story of buying a book on the street corner. I moved back to NYC in 2001 and was feeling lonely. I found a copy of Cotton Candy on a Rainy Day. I fell in love with the straight forward realness, and then read her canon of work. Powerful. RIP
