Most similar event to this that I've attended, in vibe, was by Labour First in 2017 when they were spooked by Corbyn. Given that Labour First's people were those who helped Starmer become leader, that's a bull signal.

. Lawrence (Dog Man) was a great speaker. Very enthusiastic.
. Exchanged numbers with 3/4 people I spoke with.
. Any next event is best to have a tangible project attendees can contribute to. Tbf, the organisers did have a draft bill they intend to circulate for accelerating key infra projects.

. Demos: 80-90% male attendees, late 20s-30s. Nerds (reverently).
. General mood: frustration with beaurocracy and inertia.
. Those I talked with seem likely to attend another LFG event.
. Cummings suggesting the London mayoralty as a target was interesting to me. Tractable, imo.

. Free bar for a few hours (classy)
. Cummings was funny and overconfident and contrarian as ever.
. Sustantial chats with 4 people. All either tech entepreneurs or would bes: gym sector, e-commerce, shipping, AI traffic management.

Still on X but 50% less often. Wanted to see what Blue Sky had to offer. X dug in on multiple bad features, showed little responsiveness to users like me.

A friend (quite offline and unaware of EA) told me he had a date recently with a woman who "works in finance so she can give away lots of her money.". Was funny to hear him encountering EtG for the first time in the wild. He found it a bit strange.

SBF's utilitarianism and expected-value maxxing is/was extremist. Most prominent EAs don't share his extremism, afaict.

Relatedly, I reread this the other day. Hard believe that these authors weren't trying to win a bad sex award. www.theguardian.com/books/2005/n...

Hit Man (2023), Love Lies Bleeding (2024), Dune pt II (2024) are good e.g. of how to do it better.

Worst offenders: most Bond films; the Eric Bana PTSD sex scene in Munich (2005). Achilles and the priestess' scene in Troy (2005) is a bit gratuitous.
