Unfortunately, this year I could only attend the last day of the @socialpolicyuk.bsky.social Annu Conference - impeccably hosted by the University of York. But I still thoroughly enjoyed it; managing to catch up with many friends from all over the world (quite a few from East Asia, this year!).

Today's news: Immigration to the UK is up. Is this a failure of Brexit? Not really. Brexit has achieved exactly what it was expected* to achieve. Not a reduction of immigration; but a reduction of rights among migrants (e.g. no more EU migrants with entitlements similar to UK nationals) 🧵
November 23, 2023 at 3:09 PM
I really enjoyed the NHS Research Engagement Network (REN) event today. Inspiring projects on how to make health research more inclusive. I look forward to working more with Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust on this. (Our scoping workshop on health inequalities is next week!)

As I argued before, Italy and the UK are 2 key cases of trend-setting and European convergence on migration policy. As odd as it may seem, it's nothing new. Beyond Brexit, geopolitical differences and contingent party politics. But never as clearly as today. This was last month.

The 2023 edition of the 'Dossier Statistico Immigrazione - #IDOS' was presented yesterday in Rome.
As usual, the #migration yearbook includes a chapter from me about migration trends and policy in the EU.
