Have become slightly obsessed with this performance. So, so good.
Amazing baritone and practically opera royalty, Huw Montague Rendall (who'll be playing the Count in my pal Mariame's new 'Marriage of Figaro' at G'bourne this summer), here singing a bit of The Magic Flute with his actual fiancée, Elisabeth Boudreault. A vocal-power couple

This 👇 is key. People think "the planning system is broken" or "it's all NIMBYs" or whatever but it isn't. Truth is it's impossible to make a developer use their permission once it's granted, and many don't.

Once a narrative gets adopted by the news media other stories just become ‘pattern matching’ and almost run on autopilot.

In fact, B&Q said sales in the UK are UP and the so-called budget uncertainty didn’t hit spending.
Plus, even with NI changes, they’ve upgraded profit forecast.
So all’s good.

Two drawbacks with a separate department for government efficiency are 1) they have no expertise in any of the things that the actual departments do and 2) they are not accountable for delivering what the departments deliver and thus have no expertise and face poor incentives.
