This explains the scene where Dracula summons a swarm of rats, and one of the guys is like "I'm sure glad I happened to bring my faithful rat terrier"

As a math teacher, I have thought about this quite a bit. I think that actually, people's intuition is good, because most of the things we model as exponential functions are logistic functions. I'm the pond example, there are constraints which slow down the algae when the lake is mostly full.

Oh, I see. You are measuring all the way from Broad to Sylvan. I was measuring from Ivy to Sylvan.

There's a crosswalk 1000 feet south of Ivy at Sylvan. I agree we need more crosswalks and slower cars on Wheaton Way, and I don't think we need to exaggerate to make that point. One death is too many.

One thing which stands out to me: the article mentions that they will hold back students who don't meet standards in third grade, but they don't mention any similar rule for seventh. I wonder how the trend would compare if you grouped the held-back 3rd graders with the 4th graders.

In the same vein, I am annoyed that the light rail in Seattle has a disembodied voice which says "doors to my right".

Maybe so they can share charging infrastructure at Colman dock? Just a guess.

I am remembering second-hand speculation that we would never need Internet speeds greater than a 9600 baud rate. After all, that is fast enough to transmit text faster than anyone could possibly read it.
