We live in that devastating moment when thigs are going so much better—and so much worse!—than we ever expected. At the same time.

Michael Bloomberg spent over $12 trying—and failing—to stop Mamdani. Mamdani, who's about to make Bloomberg's transit fantasy a reality.

Yes, in 2007, Bloomberg said this: "If you were to design the ultimate system, you would have mass transit be free and charge an enormous amount for cars."

Mikie Sherill wins in NJ—by imitating Mamdani’s price freeze.

Neoliberalism is dead, socialism is surging.

Trump’s powerful, but he isn’t popular. If we show a spine by fighting this fascist, and take on billionaire power, we can build lasting majority power through economic populism.

Green social housing isn't an abstraction—it's specific buildings that house people with an emphasis on climate safety.

No one should suffer heat stroke for a developer's profits. Everyone deserves a cool, safe, lovely home.

Yep- a very dumb bet.

At a Climate Week event where a fancy financier just boasted that their AI could advance sustainability by answering detailed CO2 footprint questions. Which, FWIW, can also be accomplished by skimming this book.

I had such a great time talking to @alybatt.bsky.social about her brilliant new book, FREE GIFTS: CAPITALISM AND THE POLITICS OF NATURE. And she had fun too!

Our think tank is doing relentless quantification of how to do lower-resource-use decarbonization pathways that augment human freedom and well-being in an internationalist frame. And we're not the only ones! There is so much work on this—in and beyond degrowth frames.

Yes, we need critical analyses of climate and capitalism. No, we don’t need Fox News headlines in the Nation or exhausting, one-sided takes on green political economy.

I'm so excited to talk to @alybatt.bsky.social about her *brilliant* new book, Free Gifts: Capitalism and the Politics of Nature.

Next Tuesday in SF, at Book Passage! Come through 📚💚

I talked with Allison a bunch for this terrific piece. It's an honor to be quoted, thinking about New Deal precedents, Biden's failures to take full advantage of public green investment, and the potential of green economic populism to deliver climate policy that people can actually touch.

To save the planet from climate change, AI has to first make climate change worse. Classic super-intelligence move! So sneaky, so counter-intuitive!

Writing w the brilliant Julia Wagner and @ruthygourevitch.bsky.social we dive into all the ways market-led greening is broken. Over-reliance on the market is why we're not getting the affordable, green homes and the good green careers that we deserve.

The rent's too high, it's too hot, and no one's getting the glorious green homes we keep hearing about. The market is broken.

In our latest @cplusc.bsky.social report, we show how green industrial policy could deliver affordable, green homes for all.

We also argue that we can push a GIP for housing agenda for now in progressive spaces, even without federal power. Consider all the things that underfunded NYC Public Housing + other public agencies have done by mobilizing public procurement to drive green innovation.
July 9, 2025 at 9:02 PM
We come with questions and provocations, not final answers. We ask why BBB included EVs, but barely anything for green housing? And we find the lack of a coalition around green housing CONSTRUCTION that aligns manufacturers, labor, consumers, etc. Let's build that!
July 9, 2025 at 9:02 PM
It's crazy that this isn't already a leading policy framework. We can't increase the supply of green homes—new units, green upgrades—without building policy & coalitions around producing key inputs, coordinating policies, procurement.

This is 1st essay in a @cplusc.bsky.social series on this.
